International Training Course on Research and Capacity Building on Collaborative Governance

The La Salle Institute of Governance in partnership with the University of British Columbia's Centre for Human Settlements through the UBC-UN Habitat Exchange, and with the support from the DLSU-Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Zonal Research Center, is organizing an international training course entitled Research and Capacity Building on Collaborative Governance. This will be held on August 5, 2010, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at De La Salle University-Manila.

The course will enable the participants to achieve the following: (1) to understand the role of the university in delivering capacity building programs to various clients; (2) to determine how to establish research teams; (3) to see the need to integrate teaching, research and community service learning programs; (4) to learn how to conduct research and governance assessments; and (6) to realize the challenges in developing collaborative governance research partnerships.

Lectures will be delivered by resource speakers from the University of British Columbia (Canada), Florida State University (United States), and De La Salle University. Collaboration exercises and action planning activities to be facilitated through the use of interactive learning tools will be conducted. There will also be a sharing session on how to apply for research assistance and other grant opportunities from CHED.

Visayas Island Invention Contest and Exhibits (VIICE) 2010

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Technology Application Promotion Institute (TAPI) will be holding the 2010 Visayas Cluster Invention Contest, otherwise known as the Visayas Island Invention Contest and Exhibits (VIICE) 2010. This year's VIICE is themed "Filipino Inventions and Innovations: The Way Forward" and will be hosted by DOST Regional Office VI on August 12-14, 2010 at Amigo Mall, Iloilo City.

The contest is open to all inventors, makers, designers, and creative researchers who are Filipino citizens residing in the Visayas. They are eligible to join in any of the six contest categories: (1) Invention Category (Tuklas Award); (2) Utility Model Category; (3) Industrial Design Category; (4) Creative Research Category (Likha Award); (5) Student Creative Research Category (Sibol Award) for High School; and (6) Student Creative Research Category (Sibol Award) for College.

IVETA-CPSC International Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in TVET

The Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician education (CPSC) with the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) along with other partner organizations will hold its international conference on November 3-5, 2010 at Isla Ballroom in EDSA Shangri-La, Manila, Philippines.

The international conference will bring together TVET policy makers, senior administrators, decision makers, corporate CEOs, industry practitioners, professors/teachers, educators, representatives of NGOs, civil society, academic institutions, research bodies, media representatives and other similar organizations in the thematic/subject areas to exchange and share their experiences, research results, creative ideas, innovations and new initiatives about aspects of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and discuss practical models, frameworks and best practices including recommendations and solutions adopted.

47th PSAS Scientific Seminar and Annual Convention

The Philippine Society of Animal Science is inviting researchers to their 47th Scientific Seminar and Annual Convention in the Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City from October 20-22, 2010. The theme for this year's convention is "Refocusing Animal RD&E Towards the Changing Needs of the Industry".

Registrants can present their papers in any of the following: 1) Scientific Paper Sessions (through oral presentation), 2) Scientific Poster Sessions (through poster display) and 3) Special Session (through oral presentation). Competing and non-competing scientific papers will be classified according to one of the following categories: anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, breeding and genetics, medicine and surgery, production and processing, undergraduate thesis, biotechnology, diseases and diagnostics, and socio-economics.

Titles of papers/posters must be received by the Chair of the Scientific Paper and Poster Committee not later that June 30, 2010. Hard and soft copies of scientific paper or poster  along with a completed application form must be received by the committee not later than August 16, 2010.

National Conference on Gender and Environment

The Women Studies Association of the Philippines (WSAP) will hold its 8th WSAP National Conference with the theme "Gender, Environment and Development" at UP Visayas, Iloilo City, on April 8-10, 2010.

The major objective of the conference is to engage academicians, development workers, local government officials, and policymakers about the issues of Gender, Environment and Development.

ISU's National Research and Development and Extension Symposium Call for Papers

The Isabela State University has organized a national research and development and extension (RDE) symposium to be held at the Legacy Building, National Highway, Cauayan City, Isabela on May 20-21, 2010 with the theme "Promoting and Nourishing the Frontiers of Knowledge Through Research and Development and Extension."

The symposium particularly places emphasis on the quality of papers to be presented and particular encouragement is given to multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary research results and best practices/success stories along:

  1. Education development and management and related social science disciplines underscoring emerging new technologies in the global information environment and the changing roles of teachers from mere source of information to producer of information and to enhance the role of students from passive information receivers to active knowledge accumulators;
  2. Technology generation for economic development along the areas of agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, food safety and security, engineering and related disciplines;
  3. Forestry, environment and natural resources, biodiversity conservation, climate change and global warming, and disaster risk management;
  4. Biofuels and renewable and alternative energy;
  5. Health and related disciplines; and
  6. Good practices and success stories in RDE delivery systems.

The deadline of submission of the paper abstracts for evaluation by the Symposium Committee is on March 25, 2010. The abstract must be completely self-explanatory and it must include the rationale for conducting the study, objectives, methods used, results, conclusion and recommendations drawn based on the study. With a maximum length of 300 words, the abstract should be considered to be capable of "standing alone" and could also be published separately. If accepted for presentation by the committee, the full paper must be submitted on or before April 16, 2010.

The convention fee is set at Php3,500.00 inclusive of convention materials, field tour and related expenses. Airfare/transportation and lodging expenses are not included in the convention fee.
