National Conference on Gender and Environment

The Women Studies Association of the Philippines (WSAP) will hold its 8th WSAP National Conference with the theme "Gender, Environment and Development" at UP Visayas, Iloilo City, on April 8-10, 2010.

The major objective of the conference is to engage academicians, development workers, local government officials, and policymakers about the issues of Gender, Environment and Development.

A registration fee of Two Thousand Pesos (Php 2,000.00) shall be charged inclusive of conference kit, six snacks and lunch.

ISU's National Research and Development and Extension Symposium Call for Papers

The Isabela State University has organized a national research and development and extension (RDE) symposium to be held at the Legacy Building, National Highway, Cauayan City, Isabela on May 20-21, 2010 with the theme "Promoting and Nourishing the Frontiers of Knowledge Through Research and Development and Extension."

The symposium particularly places emphasis on the quality of papers to be presented and particular encouragement is given to multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary research results and best practices/success stories along:

  1. Education development and management and related social science disciplines underscoring emerging new technologies in the global information environment and the changing roles of teachers from mere source of information to producer of information and to enhance the role of students from passive information receivers to active knowledge accumulators;
  2. Technology generation for economic development along the areas of agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, food safety and security, engineering and related disciplines;
  3. Forestry, environment and natural resources, biodiversity conservation, climate change and global warming, and disaster risk management;
  4. Biofuels and renewable and alternative energy;
  5. Health and related disciplines; and
  6. Good practices and success stories in RDE delivery systems.

The deadline of submission of the paper abstracts for evaluation by the Symposium Committee is on March 25, 2010. The abstract must be completely self-explanatory and it must include the rationale for conducting the study, objectives, methods used, results, conclusion and recommendations drawn based on the study. With a maximum length of 300 words, the abstract should be considered to be capable of "standing alone" and could also be published separately. If accepted for presentation by the committee, the full paper must be submitted on or before April 16, 2010.

The convention fee is set at Php3,500.00 inclusive of convention materials, field tour and related expenses. Airfare/transportation and lodging expenses are not included in the convention fee.

39th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting of PSM

The Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. (PSM) will hold their 39th annual convention and scientific meeting on April 29-30, 2010 at The Avenue Plaza Hotel, Naga, Camarines Sur. Papers on microbiology and biotechnology (basic, agricultural, aquatic, environmental, educational, food, industrial, medical and veterinary) are invited for oral or poster presentation.

For guidelines on the submission of papers for oral and poster presentation please download their brochure, instruction for preparation of technical papers, and pre-registration form. The deadline has been extended until March 15, 2010.

PSM is also accepting nominations for Outstanding Microbiologist, William L. Fernandez Excellence in Teaching and Service Awards. The convention is also open to companies for commercial exhibits.

40th CSSP Anniversary and Annual Scientific Conference

The Crop Science Society of the Philippines recognizes the importance of agricultural biodiversity since the country itself is a prime agricultural country, rich in biodiversity, Hence, the theme of the 40th Annual Scientific Conference is "Harnessing Genetic and Ecosystem Diversity for sustainable Agriculture". This grand scientific occasion will be held in Davao City on March 15-20, 2010 in cooperation with the Biodiversity International, Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Agricultural Research.

Researchers may submit all abstracts using the CSSP Abstract Form that you can download at http://www.cssp.org.ph and send as email attachment to Dr. Jessica D. Rey (cssp2010@gmail.com)
